TORONTO- Injuries are starting to stack up for the Toronto Marlies over their nine-game road trip.
Since starting the trip on October 28th, Matt Lashoff, Keith Aulie, Darryl Boyce and Luca Caputi have all missed games with various issues.
Lashoff, whose injury is most serious at this time, got hit from behind in a game versus the Monsters on October 30th. He left the ice on his own but has missed the last three games and is listed as out indefinitely. He left the team and is back in Toronto to be examined.
Boyce missed Sunday’s game against the Houston Aeros with tightness in his back and is day-to-day. He will miss Tuesday’s game against the Oklahoma City Barons, but is expected to be back for the weekend.
Caputi also missed Sunday’s game and will miss Tuesday’s game as well. He took a shot off his wrist and is day-to-day with soreness.
Aulie missed two games over the weekend because of his ribs, but unlike the others, he could play as early as Tuesday.
Jeff Finger has also missed time but it is unclear if it’s because of injury or if he’s being rested.
While injuries are a major concern, other notable roster moves that have been made on the road include Nazem Kadri and Matt Frattin being sent down from the Leafs as Joey Crabb and Ben Scrivens got the call-up.
Mark Owuya was brought in from the East Coast Hockey League’s Reading Royals and played in both games over the weekend.
They also signed Drew Paris to a Professional Try-Out (PTO) contract to fill the holes on defence. He joined the team Saturday and played both games over the weekend. The 6’4″ native of Quebec played some minutes last year with the Marlies on a PTO.
Interesting note, even with all the holes opening up on the roster, Brayden Irwin has been a healthy scratch for 11 of 12 games this season.
*Update Joe Colborne missed Tuesday’s game with a lower-body injury. He is listed as day-to-day.
